It may surprise readers to find out that this issue represents more than a typical hot Friday in August. For residents in Signal Hill and Long Beach, it’s a goodbye to their local newspaper’s managing editor. During her two years at the Signal Tribune, Emma DiMaggio devoted her time to reporting on the things that were deeply important and undoubtedly unusual, and proved to us that oftentimes things are both.
This week’s roundup of things to do in Long Beach offers a mix of important, strange, fun, purposeful events and gatherings. Residents can spend their week watching an outdoor movie about an elderly woman and lawyer fighting together, buying anime collectibles while watching a live performance of Vanilla Ice, giving their input for the future of the upcoming Cambodian American Cultural Center or learning about Kabbalah Jewish Mysticism in a weekly class taught by Rabbi Perelmuter.
Other things to do this week include visiting the Signal Tribune website, donating to your local newspaper and above all, staying safe.
