JCC promotes family, world healing through series of seminars

The “What Heals the Family Heals the World” seminar series kicks off today from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Alpert Jewish Community Center, located on 3801 East Willow Street in Long Beach. In the first of three seminars in the series, Dr. Peter Alsop will address “Making Safe Places.”
Dr. Peter Alsop is a nationally known educator specializing in educational psychology and experimental therapy. Through lecture, sing-alongs and experimental participation, Alsop teaches the importance of creating safe places, how unresolved emotional baggage drives unhealthy behaviors and the relevance of forming support systems.
“We are delighted to present Dr. Peter Alsop’s workshop as part of our series,” said Interim President & CEO for Family Service Lindsay Shields.
The event is a part of family service, a nonprofit, mental health agency focused on empowering individuals. Family Service works within four core program areas of counseling, educational programs, chemical dependency and intern training. The seminar is also sponsored by Keesal, Young & Logan.
General admission for “What Heals the Family, Heals the World” is $45 for the full-day session and includes lunch. The course meets qualifications for six contact hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Admission for participants seeking credit is $90 for the day. To register, visit www.familyservicecares.org and click on the Peter Alsop Event.
