The Long Beach Playhouse, 5021 E. Anaheim St., will continue to offer theatre education classes for adults while keeping an eye on opportunities to coordinate class subjects with Playhouse productions. First in the series will be a Shakespeare class geared toward preparing for the Taming of the Shrew auditions scheduled for Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.Â
Anne Schilling, head of voice and speech at Cal State University Long Beach, will teach the class, which will run Tuesday, Jan. 25 through Tuesday, Feb. 22 every Tuesday from 7pm to 9pm. The fee for the five-week course will be $200.
“The Shakespeare class will focus on familiarizing actors with Shakespearean text along with approaches to the language and how to interpret and decipher it,” said Long Beach Playhouse education coordinator Lysa Fox. “Participants will study techniques in performing such a text while exploring its poetic nature. This will be a great experience for actors familiar with Shakespeare or for someone who is leaping into the Elizabethan world for the first time.” Â
