The League of Women Voters and California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) will sponsor debates for candidates running for the 28th Senatorial District on Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 3pm to 5pm, at The Pointe in the Walter Pyramid on the CSULB campus. The public is welcome to attend. Eight candidates have qualified for the Feb. 15 special election to replace state Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died on Oct. 20. Among the candidates are Democrats Ted Lieu and Kevin Thomas McGurk, Republicans Jeffrey E. Fortini, Martha Flores-Gibson, James P. Thompson and Bob Valentine, and third-party candidates Michael Chamness and Mark Lipman. Free parking will be available in Lot 13, right next to the Pyramid.
