Class teaches how to enter, succeed in film industry

Everyone who has accomplished anything in the film industry started somewhere, and that somewhere is usually as an assistant. This fall, California State University, Dominguez Hills will launch a new class entitled “How to Get and Succeed in Your First Job in the Film Business” starting Oct. 3.
Taught by film industry veteran Karen Kaufman Wilson, the introductory course will cover the basic skills for obtaining an entry-level position and gives students real world tools to enter the highly competitive world of film.
“Most people have to start at the bottom as an assistant, and landing the first job in the business is one of the hardest steps in a film career,” said Wilson. “It is designed to separate those who want it from those who really want it. If you really want it, this course will help you get your first job and succeed in it.”
The course is offered through the CSUDH College of Extended and International Education, which features academic, professional development and lifelong learning opportunities through degree, certificate, credential programs and non-credit courses.
Anyone who is looking for their first job in the entertainment industry is encouraged to attend, whether a college graduate or people just wanting to make a career change. The class will meet Oct. 3 and Oct. 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and the cost is $125.
