A Los Angeles man was charged Wednesday in connection with an alleged DUI crash that killed a 62-year-old man who was pushing a disabled van in Long Beach on New Year’s Eve.
David Jermain Grace, 33, is charged with one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving with a 0.08% blood alcohol content causing injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The fatal crash occurred at 5:22 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Market Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police said Grace was allegedly speeding eastbound on Market Street in a 2013 Lexus and struck a disabled 1991 Dodge van that was being pushed by the 62-year-old man, alongside his 19-year-old daughter.
The daughter was not injured in the crash, but the impact pinned her father between the Dodge and Lexus. The van then struck an unoccupied, parked Nissan truck.
Paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The man’s name has not yet been released.
Grace has remained behind bars since his arrest by Long Beach police that evening, jail records show.
