LB Port shows its green attitude at annual open house

Green Port Fest, the Port of Long Beach’s annual open house featuring tours, exhibits and entertainment will take place Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Administration Building.
The event provides the public with an interactive opportunity to learn about one of the world’s busiest seaports and its Green Port Policy, a framework for how the Port is addressing environmental impacts and changing the way it does business.
Some of the event’s highlights include boat trips onto the water to see the port in action, a hands-on look at sea anemones, starfish, sharks and other sea life at the Aquarium of the Pacific’s touch tank, Eyes Under the Sea, where visitors can see how the port’s new underwater security submersibles are assisting the Harbor Patrol to protect the community. This year adds a new train tours feature and a special appearance by three-time Olympic gold-medal swimmer and environmental advocate Aaron Peirsol.
Free parking is available at the Queen Mary, located at 1126 Queen’s Highway. Transit hybrid-powered shuttle busses will take visitors from the free parking site to Green Port Fest.
