Long Beach residents can take survey on Pride Lifeguard Tower plans

The City of Long Beach is asking the community to participate in the ongoing design phase of the Pride Lifeguard Tower project by taking an online survey by Sept. 15.

In 2021, the Long Beach Pride Lifeguard Tower, located along the shoreline at 12th Place, suffered extensive fire damage due to arson, leaving behind a skeletal frame where the prominent symbol once stood.

The City of Long Beach rebuilt the tower, and unveiled the restored structure in June 2021.

The City now plans to make further improvements to the tower and surrounding area. In fiscal year 2022, the Long Beach City Council allocated funding for further enhancements to the Pride Lifeguard Tower and the creation of the Pride Tower “Node.”

The Pride Tower Node is poised to encompass several new features, including the further restoration of the Progress Pride Tower, the establishment of an inclusive and accessible boardwalk path to enhance shoreline access and the construction of a versatile deck/platform suitable for special events and casual observation.

Additionally, new mobility access mats, aligning with those already in use citywide, will facilitate easier access to the water.

The City intends to seek regulatory approvals to display public art in the vicinity during Pride Month and other special events.

Take the survey here.

For those interested in staying informed about the project, an upcoming in-person event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 27 at the Bixby Park Community Center (130 Cherry Ave).

  1. City/taxpayers money should not be used to further a private agenda that publicly glorifies sin.
