The Downtown Long Beach Alliance (DLBA) is accepting applications for its Community Events Microgrant Program until Oct. 1.
The Community Events Microgrant Program provides funds ranging from $250 to $1,000 for individuals, groups, businesses, neighborhood associations and nonprofits interested in hosting events in Downtown Long Beach.
The DLBA grant applications are for events scheduled between Oct. 12, 2023, and March 31, 2024. This marks the second application cycle hosted by DLBA this year.
“We saw some amazing event ideas come out of the last microgrant cycle and we’re looking forward to seeing what the community has in store for Downtown this time around,” said Justine Nevarez, DLBA’s Community Outreach & Events Manager in a statement from the City.
During the previous round, 11 grants were awarded for summer events, including Visit Gay Long Beach’s “Cheers to Queers” event held in June at Partake Collective.
Funds from the Community Events Microgrant Program were used for “promotional materials and marketing efforts to continue our mission of curating safe spaces and highlighting LGBTQ+ and ally-owned businesses,” said Ellie Perez, Executive Director of Visit Gay Long Beach in a statement from the City.
Nevarez and DLBA’s Special Events and Sponsorships Committee introduced the updated application process in April 2023. The focus was on supporting events aligned with the principles of DLBA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiative.
Applicants for Community Events Microgrants are encouraged to review DLBA’s boundaries to ensure their proposed event will happen within it. For detailed application guidelines and to submit an application, visit the DLBA’s website.
