Council members will help shape Metro’s projects, initiatives and transportation systems.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is accepting applications for the Metro Youth Council until Oct. 3. Interested teens between the ages of 14 and 17 living in Los Angeles County are encouraged to apply for a spot on the council for 2024.
Every Youth Council member commits to a one-year term on the council, during which they will share their ideas and perspectives about Metro’s projects, initiatives and ways to improve the transportation systems.
“I’m amazed and inspired by the dedication and thoughtful feedback of the young people who are part of Metro’s Youth Council,” Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins said in a public statement. “They have their eyes on the future and are committed to helping us make transportation better now and in the years to come.”
Youth Council members have the opportunity to gain further leadership experience by joining the Youth Council Cabinet, which includes positions such as chair, vice chair, secretary, communications officer, and special event coordinator.
Since its formation in Oct. 2021, the council and cabinet have fostered civic engagement, leadership development and networking opportunities for participants. Council members attend Metro events and activities and are able to meet peers from various regions within L.A. County.
Upon completing their term on the Youth Council, each member will receive a certificate of participation and a $300 Target giftcard.
