Flower shows of Japan inspire garden design at annual chrysanthemum show

japanese-garden.jpgThe Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at California State University, Long Beach will host its annual Chrysanthemum Show on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28 and 29 from noon to 5 p.m.
Enjoy award-winning chrysanthemum flowers in the nationally juried Chrysanthemum Society of Orange County show, which has become a favorite event of the CSULB campus and neighboring communities.
Hundreds of chrysanthemums will be placed throughout the garden to celebrate the autumn season. Many varieties of the flower, including cut and potted mums, will be available for purchase throughout the two-day event at reasonable prices.
“Visitors will be awestruck to see the garden illuminated with 500 square feet of brilliant chrysanthemums placed in the garden for this event only. The design of the show was inspired by chrysanthemum shows held in Japan near castles and inside public gardens.” said education coordinator for the garden Alison Redfoot in a press release.
While at the garden, guests may try their hand at various flower art activities inspired by the chrysanthemum. Tea and treats will be available for visitors to purchase, and boxes of refined green tea can also be purchased from Den’s Tea on this day to take home.
The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden is located on Earl Warren Drive, directly across from Lot 16 on the Cal State Long Beach campus at 1250 Bellflower Boulevard in Long Beach. Admission to the event is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for Japanese Garden members. Children 12 and under are free.
