The construction will continue through the year’s end and improve bike lanes, crosswalks and traffic signage.

Construction along Alamitos Avenue in downtown Long Beach is set to begin next week and continue into January 2024, the City announced Tuesday.

The street will receive a slurry seal treatment from the company All American Asphalt from East Ocean Boulevard to East Seventh Street. A slurry seal treatment is the application of water, asphalt emulsion, very small crushed rocks and additives over existing pavement.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and intersection closures may occur. No Parking signs will be posted for a minimum of three days prior to street closures if necessary.

Along with the slurry seal, the work will also include the installation of painted buffered bike lanes on both sides of Alamitos Avenue, new traffic striping, continental crosswalk markings and traffic signage.

The work is part of Long Beach’s Safe Streets Plan to improve pedestrian access and bike lane connectivity throughout the city.

The City encourages residents to find alternate travel routes during the duration of the project and is asking residents to reduce water runoff from driveways and lawns into the streets.

For more information about this project, residents can contact Joy Contreras, Department of Public Works Community Relations Officer, at Joy.Contreras@longbeach.gov.
