A picture of health

Representatives from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are in Long Beach this week, conducting interviews and screenings of randomly selected residents for the National Health and Nutrition Exam Survey. The data collected during the survey will help determine the number of people in the country who have a range of health conditions, and public health officials, lawmakers and physicians use the information to develop public health policies and design health programs, as well as expand health knowledge for the nation. Tony Nguyen, senior medical officer with NCHS, spoke with Signal Tribune Managing Editor Cory Bilicko Monday morning and provided a tour of the mobile unit where the screenings are taking place.
