A winter wonderland returning with Snow Day 2010

Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell has announced the return of his annual Fourth District Snow Day. This free event will take place Saturday, Jan. 23 from 11am to 3pm at Whaley Park, 5620 Atherton St.
Snow Day 2010 is expected be the largest municipally sponsored event in the city. Previous Snow Day events have seen more than 6,500 people in attendance.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing this event back for our residents, thanks to our sponsors and Partners of Parks. Snow Day 2010 will be fun for the entire family and a great opportunity to bring the community together for a day of play in real snow,” said Councilmember O’Donnell.
Completely open to the public, Snow Day 2010 will feature more than 10 tons of fresh snow for sled races and snowball making. There will be bounce houses, a live DJ and much more for kids of all ages. The Long Beach Police and Firefighters Associations will also be on hand for a free barbeque lunch for the family while local vendors will provide hot chocolate.
Councilmember Patrick O’Donnell began Snow Day in 2006 as a way to provide a fun and memorable family experience for the whole community. Joining Councilmember O’Donnell at Snow Day 2010 will be Long Beach Police & Fire Department personnel with equipment, as well as other city departments and businesses from throughout the community. The event is a partnership of city and community sponsors, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, the Port of Long Beach and Signal Hill Petroleum.
