Allan Harris will jump-start the 2009/10 Cabaret Series at the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center. Harris is a four-time winner of New York’s Nightlife Award for “Outstanding Jazz Vocalist,” who has been described by Variety as “a velvet-voiced jazz singer, with a savvy manner and music in his veins.” Now this award-winning singer performs his tribute to Nat King Cole at The Carpenter Center for two evenings: Wednesday and Thursday, October 7 and 8.
After being repeatedly compared to Nat King Cole throughout his career, Allan Harris developed his Cole tribute show for a two-night run at Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center in 2005. The performances were recorded and then released as the live CD Long Live the King in 2007. “This 13-song tribute to Mr. Cole is my most heartfelt recording to date and a culmination of years of love and appreciation to those who were gracious enough to compare me to this remarkable man,” said Harris.
Allan Harris will be performing in the Carpenter Center’s most unique setting: an intimate cabaret arrangement where the audience sits on stage and enjoys the performance from their tables. Single tickets for Long Live the King are $78 – $68 and $73 – $63 for seniors, including dinner and performance only tickets are $45—$55 and $40—$50 for seniors. All tickets can be purchased by calling the Carpenter Center Arts Ticket Office at (562) 985-7000, or by visiting www.CarpenterArts.org.
