Alamitos Neighborhood Library will be closed from March 4-22 for maintenance and Measure A improvements. Following its regular five-day schedule, it will reopen March 25.
Maintenance includes termite treatment and lead abatement, restoration of the library front doors and the windows in the community room, as well as energy optimization improvements. Work on the doors and windows will continue when the library reopens, and is expected to be completed by July.
Digital resources, including e-books and online databases, will remain available through the Long Beach Public Library website.
This project is funded by $721,000 in Measure A funds, a Long Beach ballot initiative approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services, which was extended indefinitely by voters in 2020.
Measure A also funded the first phase of improvements at the Alamitos Neighborhood Library, which included HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing upgrades. More information about Measure A can be found at longbeach.gov/measurea.
The project also received $350,000 from Elevate ’28 funds, the City’s five-year infrastructure initiative designed to revitalize parks, public facilities and other infrastructure in preparation for the 2028 Olympics.
