Amped about camp

Wohelo!
If you recognize this phrase, then you or someone in your family has been a member of Camp Fire USA, and we are hoping to reconnect with you in honor of Camp Fire’s Centennial recognizing 100 years of service to America’s youth and families. A year-long plus celebration began this month and will include a series of events including nationwide centennial campfires on July 31, each campfire beginning at 7:30pm in its respective time zone.
We are writing as the volunteer leaders of the San Wa Di Ta Mi Camp Fire Group who proudly served as Color Guard for the opening of the March 2nd Signal Hill City Council meeting. To our delight, we learned that night that Ellen Ward, the retiring mayor of Signal Hill, had grown up in Camp Fire as she shared stories of how meaningful Camp Fire had been in her life growing up— and that reminder is the reason for this letter.
As part of this centennial celebration and leading up to the centennial campfire, we are collecting 100 stories for our 100th birthday, but to do this we need your help. As Camp Fire kids grow up and move around, we lose track of them. So this letter is to ask you to please share your fond memories of that special Camp Fire person who made such a positive difference in your life— counselor, leader, parent mentor or friend— or of that special Camp Fire place, service project or activity that was important to you. Whether you were involved locally or across the country, we would like to know who you are and why Camp Fire was important to you.
Camp Fire USA has had a local presence since 1923— starting up just 13 years after the national movement began. Co-educational since 1975, Camp Fire makes a difference for all kids across our community— we’re inclusive and service-oriented with particular emphasis on helping kids become better stewards of the natural environment.
