Sixth District Long Beach City Councilmember Dee Andrews announced last week that he will seek another term as a write-in candidate in next April’s Municipal Primary Election. Since 1992, Andrews is only the fourth city councilmember to seek a third term, according to Derek Humphrey, Andrews’s campaign consultant.
“I’m proud of my record, working to improve and protect 6th District neighborhoods, but there is much work that still needs to be done, and there are projects I want to see through to completion,” Andrews said. “After a lifetime in central Long Beach, I think voters have a pretty good idea of who I am, what I stand for and what they can count on me to fight for. Today, I will begin what is likely to be my final political campaign, by asking voters to write my name in to allow me the honor of continuing to represent them at City Hall.”
Under Long Beach’s city charter, councilmembers may run for a third term, but only as write-in candidates in the primary election. Upon advancing to the general election, their names will appear on the ballot.
