Thousands of residents will gather for the 10th annual Christmas Tree Lighting event in downtown Long Beach on Dec. 4, to watch the mayor light the city’s tallest Christmas tree.
“Join us for the 10th anniversary of one of the most spectacular free holiday events in the southland,” said Mayor Rex Richardson in a public statement. “It’s become such a treasured tradition in Long Beach: the lights, fireworks, performances and, most of all, the people of Long Beach. I can’t imagine a better way to welcome the holiday season.”
The event will also include a fireworks display, holiday train rides, photos with Santa Claus, artificial snow and live performances, such as excerpts from the Long Beach Ballet’s “The Nutcracker,” singer Terron Brooks, a cappella group SoCal VoCale and a live band. Food trucks will be onsite to offer food and drinks.
During the celebration, the Long Beach Fire Department will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for its annual Spark of Love toy drive, which gives presents to families and children in need.
The Terrace Theater Plaza will remain decorated with over half a million lights and decorations through the New Year.
The 10th annual Christmas Tree Lighting event will take place at the Long Beach Terrace Theater Plaza (300 E Ocean Blvd.) from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 4. Admission is free.
