Annual exhibition invites artists to interpret La Virgen

la-virgen.jpgPicture This Custom Framing and Art Gallery is getting ready for their annual La Virgen art show, which will run Dec. 1 through Dec. 29 and is still accepting artist submissions through Friday, Nov. 16. The show displays the many faces and interpretations of “La Virgen de Guadalupe” or the Virgin Mary, as it is more commonly known.
“This is an artist opportunity to show their view of La Guadalupana through their work,” said Mattie Gomez, owner of Picture This.
According to Gomez, “La Virgen de Guadalupe” is one of the world’s most important religious and cultural icons. The traditional image of the Virgin Mary cloaked in stars and standing on a crescent moon has been reinterpreted and reinvented for more than 400 years.
“Our annual December show allows artists to display their own interpretation of La Virgen” said Gomez. Whether it be traditional or not, visual or musical, it is bringing people together through art.
Art submitted can be either traditional or interpretations as long as it includes an obvious image of the Virgin Mary. La Virgen is open to all forms of art, including paintings, sculpture, photography, textiles, music, and poetry or spoken word. Artists will be notified by Nov. 18.
The deadline for artists is Friday at 6 p.m. To submit your work send an image sampling work and include name, bio, a description of the artwork, its size and price to picturethisgallery@gmail.com with the subject “La Virgen Entry.”
