Annual LB Mozart Festival kicks off free concerts

The Long Beach Mozart Festival, a classical music competition that offers “melodious sounds of the prolific and prominent composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his equally influential contemporaries” will once again reverberate in various venues during several free events this month in honor of the festival’s 41st-year anniversary.
Instrumental and vocal musicians from all over Southern California compete for prizes in three different categories including the concerto competition, the piano competition and the vocal competition, while gaining invaluable performance experience.
The festival is supported by three local churches, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), volunteer and donation sponsorships. The festival takes place in various venues around the city of Long Beach. The concert performances are all free. “A Night in Vienna,” however, is a fundraising event featuring the winners of the vocal competition.
This year’s grand finale concert features concerto competition winner Annelle Gregory who will perform the Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 in A Major, K219. Our soloist will be accompanied by the Long Beach Mozart Festival Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Johannes Müller-Stosch. The program will also include Haydn Symphony No.104, “London” . The concert is dedicated to the memory of Alayne Armstrong, a cellist in the Long Beach Symphony and founding member of the Long Beach Mozart Festival. The free concert takes place Jan. 26 at 4pm at the Daniel Recital Hall at CSULB behind the Carpenter Center near the Pyramid on Atherton St. Parking is $5.
