Nonprofits have until June 15, 2022 to apply for Long Beach’s nonprofit relief grant program, which offers “working capital” of $5,000 to $25,000 to pay for business expenses, the City announced today.

Nonprofit grant applications, which opened in March, were previously due on May 15.

The deadline for applying organizations to obtain a business license, a requirement for grant eligibility, has been extended to July 15.

The grants, funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act, are meant for small nonprofits with less than 200 employees in Long Beach that experienced financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City has received 97 applications for grants thus far, according to Business Development Officer Eric Romero.

The nonprofit relief grant will disperse $1.7 million in direct funding to local organizations, according to Romero.

Eligible nonprofits can use grant funds for rent, payroll, utilities, personal protective equipment, furniture, marketing, technology and property damage, among other uses.

In cooperation with The Nonprofit Partnership, the City will host a webinar for local nonprofits to learn about the program, eligibility requirements and how to apply this Thursday, April 28 at 11 a.m.

Nonprofit representatives can register for the webinar at https://bit.ly/TNPwebinar. The webinar will be recorded for those who are not able to attend.

To qualify for the grant, nonprofits must be located and operate within the boundaries of Long Beach, have an active Long Beach business license, be registered as a nonprofit or fiscally sponsored organization and must have experienced financial hardship as a result of COVID-19—such as nonprofit interruptions or closures related to the pandemic. A full list of eligibility requirements and required documents is available online.

Applications for the nonprofit relief grant program can be submitted through LiveStories, the City’s vendor application portal.

The deadline for small business relief grants has not been extended and applications for those programs will close on May 15 at 8 p.m.
