Looking for a way to support the troops and also make their stay more comfortable, Richard Daskam of Keller Williams Realty Los Alamitos has started a drive to collect new and used DVDs to be sent to overseas.
Daskam has partnered with Operation DVD to collect the DVDs locally along with agents from his office.
“I was reading an article in the paper about Operation DVD and said that would be a great way to help the troops,” Daskam said. “People have DVDs they aren’t watching anymore or received as a gift and didn’t like the movie. I thought this will show the troops that people at home care plus lets them be entertained when they are relaxing.”
Operation DVD is an auxiliary program of the AMVETS. The organization has already collected 250,000 DVDs and has a goal of collecting 1 million. Robert Boots, California spokesman for Operation DVD says the goal is to have more than 200 titles in rotation at each base.
A box to collect the DVDs is set up at the Keller Williams Realty Los Alamitos office, 10900 Los Alamitos Boulevard in Los Alamitos. The office also has extra boxes if others in the community would like to get involved.
Ed McMahon, the former “Tonight Show” sidekick and Mickey Rooney have become active in the program.
