BKBIA Mixer
The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association invites members to “Sing Along with Sid” at their monthly mixer, tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at You Can Sing Karaoke, located at 4234 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Math and Science Conference
The Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is hosting the Sixth Annual Math and Science Conference for Middle School Girls on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Long Beach City College. The organization WRAP (Winners Reaching Amazing Potential), a community partnership providing after-school programs, will register and bring 150 girls by bus. Local speakers with careers involving science and math will present their vocations to the girls. Each girl will participate in three workshops of their choice. Community lecture
Rancho Los Cerritos is beginning a new lecture series starting Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. with “Picking Americans and Training Them Well: Casper T. Hopkins, the California Immigrant Union and the ‘Manual of American Ideas.'” The presentation is one of many which will explore the experience of new citizens and immigrant groups in California, focusing on people who played important roles in the region. The cost is $3 for Rancho members and students and $5 for non-members, and reservations are required. Rancho Los Cerritos is located at 4600 Virginia Road in Long Beach. Take Back Pine Avenue cleanup
People interested in improving the quality of life in Long Beach are invited to participate in the cleanup of the neighborhood just north of Pacific Coast Highway on Pine Avenue. Dubbed “Take Back Pine Avenue,” the event is sponsored by several neighborhood groups, nonprofit organizations and several other city departments. The cleanup begins at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. BluePrint Reading Class
Coastline Community College is offering a five-week course in blueprint reading beginning Saturday, Feb. 23. The course, entitled Residential/Commercial Blue Print Reading is an introduction to residential and commercial construction and continues every Saturday until Mar. 22. The cost is $20 per unit for California residents plus nominal college fees and will take place at the college’s Costa Mesa office. For more information, contact Coastline at (714) 241-6209.

Elks Breakfast
The Elks of Bellflower/Long Beach invite the public to join them for their monthly Elks Breakfast Sunday, Feb. 24 from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, fruit, waffles, orange juice and coffee, among other items. The cost is $5.50 per person. The Elks Lodge is located at 16426 Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower.

Health Fair
On Monday, Feb. 25, St. Mary Medical Center will host its annual Black History Month health fair entitled “Body and Soul: A Wellness Forum” from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Health Enhancement Center on St. Mary’s campus, located at 1050 Linden Avenue in Long Beach. The community is invited to participate in free health screenings, visit the health information booths, enjoy gospel music and partake in the array of healthy soul food.
