MUSEUM MUSINGS
The Signal Hill Historical Society will have a general meeting open to the public today at 6:30 p.m. in the Signal Hill Library, 1770 East Hill St. Call Frank Virga at (562) 961-8735. On the agenda is a discussion of the proposed Signal Hill Historical Museum.

EMOTIONAL RESCUE
The Disabled Resources Center will be offering “Dealing with your Emotions” on October 10 at 1:30 p.m. with Pam Krug from Long Beach Community Hospital as the presenter. AN ODE TO DEAD PRESIDENTS?

GET OUTDOORSY

The Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine El Dorado Nature Center, 7550 East Spring St., offers plenty of opportunities for enjoyment and involvement this fall, including classes and plant sales. Weaving Baskets, Weaving Stories, on Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m,, will feature a naturalist telling stories about how the first native people survived in harmony with the land; participants will also weave baskets out of natural materials. Cost is $3 per person. For Simple Saturdays, on Saturday, October 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., discover new and simple ways to live more in harmony with the earth with botanist Eric Zahn explaining the benefits and beauties of native plants. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, on Sunday October 12 a special “Think Pink” Sunday Sippers tours beautiful Long Beach on The Big Red Bus with $5 of each ticket price being donated to the local Breast Cancer Angels, as well as a portion of the proceeds from all wine bottle sales. Those interested can purchase tickets via each participating location but should purchase them in advance to ensure a spot. The October selection for the Bixby Knolls Literary Society is Native Son by Richard Wright. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 14 at 7 p.m. at the Richard Goad Theatre, 4250 Atlantic Avenue. The discussion will be led by Dr. Richard Yarborough, who has lectured and published widely on African American literature and U. WALK THE WALK
Support Miller Children’s Hospital in “Walk Across America,” a nationwide three-mile walk. Proceeds will help Miller and other children’s hospitals across the nation tackle the toughest health issues facing kids. “Walk Across America” takes place Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008 at 8 a.m. at California State University, Long Beach.
