WHO WILL BE CROWNED MISS LONG BEACH?
The 2008 Annual Miss Long Beach Pageant will honor the city’s outstanding young ladies on Saturday, June 7 at the Cal State Long Beach University Theater. The pageant is an annual event that has crowned Miss Long Beach and Miss Teen Long Beach for more than 50 years. To purchase tickets for this event, visit www.misslongbeach.com. Admission for adults is $30 and $22 for students. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show starts at 5 p.m. The post-pageant gala will be held at the Gaslamp Restaurant & Bar, 6251 E. Pacific Coast Highway, immediately after the show.
THE ABCs OF DIABETES
Community Hospital of Long Beach has announced the new Saturday summer session dates for its Diabetes 101 program for individuals who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. This four—session intensive program teaches participants the ABCs of living with diabetes. The first summer session will take place on two consecutive Saturdays—June 7 and 14—all day from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch is included. The second summer session will take place on two consecutive Saturdays in July — July 12 and 19. All of the Diabetes 101 sessions will be held in Conference Room 3 on the “B” level of the hospital and are free to participants, but reservations are required by calling (562) 494-0764.

The Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum will host a day to make Dad a keychain gift on Sunday, June 8 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. As part of the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum’s Weekend Rancho Activity series, the Father’s Day keychain activity is a fun, free and interactive workshop for children five and older to make fathers a special present for Father’s Day.
