Community Happy Hour
John Morris, owner of Smooth’s Sports Grille on Pine Avenue, will be the featured guest speaker at the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association’s Community Happy Hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20 at Elise’s Tea Room, located at 3924 Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach. Morris will be giving a short presentation on “Challenges and Successes of Owning a Business in Long Beach” and will meet and greet area residents and business owners. Tip-A-Firefighter Night
The Long Beach Fire Department invites residents to come say hello to their firefighters, who will be serving up meals and pouring drinks at 6 p.m. tonight at the Rock Bottom Brewery, located at 1 Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach. The event is part of the department’s annual Fire Fighter Ale celebration and all firefighter tips raised will benefit the Friends of Long Beach Firefighters organization. Spring Fling
Los Cerritos Elementary School is putting a spring in everyone’s step with their Spring Fling Benefit Concert Friday, March 21. The concert will showcase the band Stilgo Rags. The band will play two shows during the spring fling, one at 5:30 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and $25 for families and are available online. Health Screening
Memorial Hospital of Long Beach will be having a free cardiac health screening for women on Monday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cardiac screening includes blood pressure, body mass index, and glucose and cholesterol checks. How to Form A Neighborhood Association
Join 5th District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske and community planner Monica Mendoza for a discussion on how to form a neighborhood association Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the El Dorado Senior Center Library, located at 2800 Studebaker Road in Long Beach. A neighborhood association can provide a local forum where residents can discuss issues of importance to them and a recognized vehicle for communicating views to elected officials and city staff. Elks Breakfast
The Elks Lodge of Bellflower/Long Beach is having its monthly breakfast on Sunday, March 30 from 8 a.m. until noon. The Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce and Concerned Citizens of Signal Hill are hosting a Long Beach Unified School Board District 4 Candidates Forum Monday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be moderated by Alan Tolkoff and will take place at the Mercedes Benz Long Beach-Signal Hill Meeting Room, located at 2300 East Spring Street in Signal Hill.
