RUMMAGE THROUGH!
Cal Heights United Methodist Church is hosting its annual church-wide rummage sale today through Saturday, May 3 to raise funds for the community-centered church. Bargains galore can be found at the sale, from gently used clothing, toys, games, home goods and furniture, to a special boutique and collectibles area. On Saturday, shoppers can fill a bag for $5. Hours are; Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The church is located at 3759 Orange Avenue. FOR ASPIRING LEGAL BEAGLES
The Long Beach Branch of NAACP, in conjunction with the law firm of Keesal, Young and Logan, will host its fifth annual Law Day program tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the firm at 400 Oceangate in Long Beach. The purpose of the program is to introduce minority students to law as a career. MODERN-DAY EDISONS AND BELLS
California State University, Long Beach is hosting two events highlighting recent and ongoing research, published works and the creative accomplishments of faculty and students. The All University Celebration of Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity, being held today at The Pointe in The Walter Pyramid, will feature a variety of student and faculty projects. The event is free to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Friday, May 2, the university will host the Social Science Research and Instructional Council’s 32nd Annual Student Research Conference, featuring some of the best social science research projects by students. The conference, which will take place in the University Student Union ballrooms from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is also free to the public. The university is located at 1250 N. Bellflower Blvd.

A CATALYST FOR CHANGE SINCE 1881
The Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women invites college or university graduates to a membership garden party at a private home on Saturday, May 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 pm. It will be an opportunity to meet and chat with members and learn about the branch and its commitment to advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. WINTER SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS
Jean and Harry Pope are opening up their garden for a spring flower showing for neighbors and visitors Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 45 La Linda Drive in Long Beach. The gardens, 20 years in the making, are the best they have ever looked thanks to the plentiful rainfall throughout the recent rainy season. The adjacent garden at the historic George Bixby house will be open as well and can be accessed via a gate in the wall separating the two houses or via the reflecting pool gate near the front of the drive. Visitors are asked for contributions of any amount to support several charities sponsored by the Mary Lou Heard Foundation, primarily the Sheepfold, a home for support of abused women and children.

A CO-ED CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE
St. Anthony High School will host an open house Sunday, May 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for students and families interested in a co-ed, college preparatory Catholic high school experience. Tours will be provided by student ambassadors, and guests will have the opportunity to meet with teachers, staff, alumni and current students, as well as enjoy a performance of St. Anthony’s student choir.
