Literacy Services Open House

Medicare Part D Lecture
On Friday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Signal Hill City Council Chamber, a representative from the Center for Health Care Rights (CHCR) will give a free presentation about Medicare Part D. Topics to be discussed are when to enroll in a Part D plan, what benefits are covered and how Medicare drug benefits work with Medi-Cal or retiree drug coverage. Associated Radio Amateurs Meeting
The Associated Radio Amateurs of Long Beach is hosting its monthly meeting Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. Three topics planned for November’s meeting are a Wilson High School’s Student Emergency Response Team update, a video presentation of “The History of SOS and the Sinking of the Titanic,” and nominations for next year’s board of directors. The meeting will take place at the Signal Hill Community Center, located at 1780 East Hill Street in Signal Hill.
“American Ugly”
The Long Beach Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is having its monthly meeting on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. The meeting will feature Tracy Sachtjen, who will speak about her Ph.D. dissertation “American Ugly: The Production of Ugliness in American Culture.” Lunch will be provided before the program. Elegant Glass Auction
Fostoria Glass Collectors, Inc., a non-profit organization, is having their second Elegant Glass Auction of the year on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Jan’s Antiques, located at 1133 East Wardlow Road in Long Beach. The auction will have nearly 200 lots of glass items, china, pottery, and linens up for bid. Girl Scout Reunion
All former Girl Scout members, leaders and volunteers are invited to the first Girl Scout Reunion Sunday, Nov. 4. Join the Girl Scout Council as they celebrate 95 years of Girl Scouting and the impact it has made in the world since founder Juliette Gordon Low first implemented her vision of the female-centered program. Author Talk
The Friends of the Signal Hill Library invites the public to meet author Jonna Doolittle Hoppes Monday, Nov 5 at 7 p.m. at the Signal Hill Park Community Center, located at 1780 East Hill Street in Signal Hill. Hoppes will talk about her book Calculated Risk, which details the story of her grandfather’s exploits as a visionary aviator who led the Tokyo Raid in World War II. Medicare seminar
The Disabled Resources Center is hosting a seminar for people to learn about Medicare Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. A representative from the Center for Health Care Rights will discuss recent changes in Medicare, the benefits of Medicare as well as about co-payments and deductibles.
