Autism Health Lecture

On Friday, Nov. 16, Miller Children’s Hospital will be conducting a free interactive lecture entitled “Autism 101: Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Autism but Were Afraid to Ask.” Learn more about autism from clinical specialist and guest speaker Dr. Pauline A. Wheelchair Screening

Long Beach Memorial Medical Center is hosting a free wheelchair and seating system screening on Friday, Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the rehabilitation department’s outpatient clinic. Tire Recycling
On Saturday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to noon the Environmental Services Bureau, located at 2929 East Willow Street in Long Beach, is asking the public to bring in their old tires and help keep alleys and streets clean. No more than five tires without rims will be accepted per automobile. For more information, call (562) 570-2850.

Affordable Housing Forum

The League of Women Voters Long Beach Area is having a community forum entitled “Community Housing” on Saturday, Nov 17 from 10 a.m. to noon. Listen to the experts from Long Beach Housing Services, the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Long Beach Department of Planning and Building, and others and contribute opinions on housing opportunities in Long Beach. Diving for Science Lecture
The Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium invite the public to its Divin’ for Science holiday lecture and shopping event on Saturday Nov. 17. The aquarium gift shop is having a 20-percent discount for Friends members from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the lecture will be taught by aquarium director Mike Schaadt from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided by Henry’s Farmers Market, and reservations are required. An Evening with Fernando de Szyszlo
On Saturday, Nov. 17, Peruvian abstract painter Fernando de Szyszlo will be speaking at the Museum of Latin American Art from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. inside the Balboa Lecture Hall. The event is hosted by Molaa’s Associate Vice President of Exhibitions Cynthia MacMullin. The cost is free to Molaa members and $5 for non-members. For reservations, call (562) 437-1689.

Emergency Preparedness Training

Tree Lighting Ceremony
The cities of Long Beach and Signal Hill invite the public to attend their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. at Discovery Well Park, located at 2200 Temple Avenue in Signal Hill. Refreshments will be provided.

Breakfast with Santa

Signal Hill’s annual Breakfast with Santa tickets are on sale now. Pre-registration is required and there are only 100 tickets available for this sell-out event. Tickets include a craft, breakfast, and a keepsake photo of with Santa Claus. The event is Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Signal Hill Park Community Center. Ticket prices for residents of Signal Hill are $10 for children and $5 for adults. Non-resident ticket prices are $15 for children and $10 for adults. There.
