Volunteer Village

Community Hospital Fundraiser
Community Hospital of Long Beach (CHLB) Auxiliary is having its annual “Bountiful Boutique” fundraiser of baked goods, boutique items and plants for sale on Thursday, Oct. 11 and Friday, Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the hospital auditorium. All proceeds from the event go towards CHLB programs and services. CHLB is located at 1720 Termino Avenue in Long Beach. For more information, call (562) 494-0835.
African American Heritage Society
The African American Heritage Society is celebrating its 10th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1:30 with their annual program “Challenging a Crisis: Creating New Resources” at the Burnett Public Library Auditorium, located at 560 East Hill Street in Long Beach. “Challenging a Crisis” will be a series of stories of the AAHS’s first decade as told by co-founders Doris Topsy-Elvord and Indira Hale Tucker. The event is free and open to the public.
Signal Hill Cultural Arts Show
Friends of Signal Hill Cultural Arts (FOSHCA) will host an Inaugural Fundraising Event, Show & Sell, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Signal Hill Community Center from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will highlight artistic talent on the Hill and surrounding communities. Magical Evening Casino Night
Community Hospital of Long Beach Foundations is hosting the Third Annual Magical Evening Casino & Poker Night Saturday Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. at La Palapa Del Mar, located at 4020 Olympic Plaza in Long Beach. The event includes a no-host bar, dinner, casino gaming and door prizes for $125 per person. A Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament will also take place at an additional buy-in cost of $150. Crochet ‘N Chat
The Crochet Guild of Long Beach will present a crochet workshop to be held in the patio area of the Marketplace Shopping Center on the corner of Westminster and PCH Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Members will be making pink scarves and hats for the Breast Cancer Foundation. Cold and Flu Prevention Lecture
Public Health Nurse Heidi Lopez of the Los Angeles County Public Health Department will be answering questions and giving cold and flu prevention tips Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Signal Hill City Hall Council Chamber, located at 2175 Cherry Avenue in Signal Hill. Women’s Health Forum
Women of all ages are invited to attend a free Women’s Health Forum on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Mary Medical Center’s Health Enhancement Center, located at 1055 Linden Avenue in Long Beach. Attendees will hear wellness lectures from St. Mary Breast Surgeon Rebecca Alleyne, M.D., and St. Mary and Healthcare Partners physician Thomas Hascall, M.D. The program is sponsored by HealthCare Partners and reservations are required.
