The theme surrounding DDR Projects’ latest exhibit Heedless Appetence, by artists Juan Carlos Noria and John Culqui, is loosely based on the Seven Deadly Sins and how they play an intricate role in our lives, whether we are religious or not.
Why do we feel the compulsion to inject poison into our bodies to stop the aging process or in the name of aesthetic beauty? Vanity. Why do we jump into our cars when where we need to go is a block a way or within easy walking distance? Sloth. We commit these “sins” every single day without taking notice or even bothering to question the reasons.
This exhibit takes a deeper look at our day to day lives and why we choose to live the way we do without pause. Subtle and iconic images intertwined to make that point and to drive it home, and to reflect on why each and every day we commit these “sins” against others and ourselves with a care-free attitude and a heedless appetence.
Heedless Appetence runs Friday, Sept. 11 through Thursday, Oct. 8 at DDR Projects, 3403 East Broadway.
