Art exhibit studies loss of social connection caused by technology

Long Beach Artists Unite will be presenting the iShow, a benefit to raise money for the AIDS Project Los Angeles, at the Bandshell Theater at Recreation Park on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. to Sunday, Sept. 30.
The iShow is an original concert created by performers that addresses “the decreasing social connection caused by the increase of technological gadgets.” According to the performers, technology shown in the names of devices such as iPod, iPhone, Myspace and You Tube are shifting the emphasis from the community to the individual. Interest has been lost in human connection without such devices, making people isolated and apathetic.
The show hopes to highlight some of the artists’ observations through art, movement, original music, sketches and comedy. There is also a special acoustic guest performance by the band “presentTENSE.” The Long Beach Artists Unite is a group formed with the hope of using their various artistic mediums to incite thought, provoke positive change “and help our community for the better.
