Art and music will fill Atlantic Avenue for First Fridays, an event that brings businesses and residents together in honor of the creative arts. The next First Fridays event will take place on Sept. 7.
The Historical Society will open the doors on their new gallery located at 4260 Atlantic Avenue. Guests there will be able to view the gallery’s historic display and enjoy refreshments.
Nino’s Italian restaurant on 3853 Atlantic, will not only feature live music from Jennifer Corday but also the work of painters Jaime Kivisto and a “soul-seeing” artist simply known as Catheryn. Their work can be seen from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Chroma Glass Design will also feature photographer Susan Sabo and painter Keiko Kojima from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. inside their store on 4242 Atlantic Avenue.
Guests are invited to jam with an ensemble of local musicians at Jammin Music at 3972 Atlantic Avenue. All ages are welcome and the store will provide drums for communal music-making between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Tuttle Cameras invites the public to see their own staff’s shots of Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental U.S. at 4019 Atlantic.
Down at Four Olives, Dennis Larios will present art derived from his desire to experience life through traveling, culture, relationships and spirituality. The presentation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 4276 Atlantic Avenue.
The Richard Goad Theatre on 4250 Atlantic Avenue has a great deal going on. Artistic Director Helen Borgers will have an announcement at 7 p.m. Following, there will be a special appearance by Anon and Beyond. Also, new Shakespeare T-shirts will be unveiled and they will present an exhibit in their lobby of works from the Polish School of Posters.
Shore Books, located at 4270 Atlantic Avenue, will feature artist Ken Marshall, whose work is best described as Industrial Tribalism.
And for those who feel First Fridays are not enough, the Mirage Café has open mic night every Friday night for poets and musicians. The festivities start at 8pm at 539 Bixby Rd. in Long Beach.
