The Art Theatre, 2025 E. 4th Street, in conjunction with the Arts Council for Long Beach, will host free Smithsonian Week cultural events March 1—14.
Ongoing photo exhibits will include: “The Resurrection of a Long Beach Landmark— The Art Theatre,” Long Beach photographer Tami Graham’s photo journey of the rebuilding of the Art Theatre; and “Art Deco Buildings in Long Beach and Los Angeles,” Long Beach photographer Chris Launi’s exhibit of photographs of local historic buildings.
On Saturday, March 7, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, there will be two presentations. Graham will present “The Rebirth of Art,” a photo lecture in which she narrates her experience of photographing the theatre’s restoration. In “Deco on Broadway,” Long Beach Heritage President and art deco expert John Thomas will discuss the theatre’s architectural significance and sign copies of his recent book Long Beach Art Deco.
