At the annual State of the Arts Luncheon on Thursday, September 25, the Arts Council for Long Beach will honor six exemplary individuals and one organization that have played essential roles in molding and enhancing the cultural landscape in Long Beach. These awards are bestowed in recognition of excellence, commitment, and community contribution. Distinguished Arts Awards nominations are submitted by community members or organizations and are reviewed by an independent panel that chooses the recipients. The complete list of 2008 award recipients is as follows: Dr. Robert Gumbiner, James H. Ackerman Arts Philanthropy Award; Acres of Books, Lifetime Achievement Award; Sandow Birk, Distinguished Artist; Jean Clad, Distinguished Arts Leader; Ken & Dottie Reiner, Distinguished Arts Patrons; and John Malveaux, Distinguished Arts Volunteer.
The Arts Council invites friends and colleagues to show their support by attending the event or by purchasing a congratulatory ad in the event program book.
