Geiling served from 1960 to 1975 both at the Long Beach Naval Station as well as the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, where he was stationed aboard the USS Bluegill and USS Remora. After leaving active duty, Geiling continued to serve the military as the commanding officer of a U.S. Naval Reserve Unit and as a military intelligence manager with IBM.
“Lieutenant Commander Geiling’s accomplishments both on and off the battlefield speak to the strength of his character, tireless work ethic and extraordinary bravery,” O’Donnell said. “I am pleased to have this opportunity to acknowledge his countless civic contributions and steadfast commitment to defending our country.”
Geiling describes some of his most important missions as taking place during his time as president and CEO of the American Gold Star Manor, a senior retirement facility for U.S. veterans and mothers who have lost children in the line of duty.
Geiling was also a founding board member of the Jonas Project, which helps turn veteran-entrepreneurs into business leaders. In addition, he serves on the local board of Saint Mary Medical Center and is vice president of the foundation that raised funds to bring a much needed Fisher House to the grounds of the Long Beach VA Hospital.
O’Donnell presented Geiling with an Assembly resolution for a lifetime of achievements that have cemented his reputation as a visionary business and community leader, philanthropist, family man and proud veteran.
