Candice Stacy was recognized as the 55th Rick Rackers 2009 Woman of the Year at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency last week. Since 1953, Rick Rackers, an Auxiliary of Assistance League of Long Beach, has honored one outstanding woman in the community each year with the award.
Stacy was recognized for her commitment and her love for community service and volunteerism. She had been nominated by several people from the Long Beach community, all of whom repeatedly noted her sincerity, integrity, and humility.
She is affiliated with and has been recognized by many organizations for her volunteerism and leadership roles, including positions with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach, Junior League of Long Beach, Assistance League of Long Beach, Children’s Dental Foundation, 32/32 Club (a support group of the Children’s Dental Health Clinic), Casa Youth Shelter, Steel Magnolias, P.E.O., American Red Cross, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Healthy Kids Coalition, Homeless Student Advisory Board, JC Penney “Golden Rule” Awards Selection Committee, Congressional Cup Yacht Races, and Marina News. Junior League of Long Beach presented her with the Helen D. Newcomb Award in 2001 and she has been recognized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Long Beach with the Service to Youth Award and Gold Man & Boy Award.
Stacy said it is an honor to be considered in the same category as the other 54 women who have been selected as Woman of the Year. “To know that they would consider me to be anything like them is the greatest compliment,” she said. “I have had the honor of winning many awards in the past, but this is the one I covet.”
