Spinach-kale omelet with seasoned red potatoes and a slice of homemade bread” captionposition=”bottom-left” lightbox=”off” floater=”on” floaterposition=”left” floaterdirection=”none”] [aesop_character name=”Cory Bilicko” caption=”Managing Editor” align=”left” force_circle=”off”] Now under new ownership, Babe’s Kitchen, 1106 E Wardlow Rd., has some unique offerings that distinguish it from other local eateries— particularly when it comes to breakfast, which is what my friend and I enjoyed there recently.
Their fresh-squeezed juices alone are enough to draw in health-conscious individuals on the go, but the menu at Babe’s and the quality of the food certainly make it worth the while to have a seat at a table or the counter to enjoy the friendly service and various dishes— especially since they bake their own bread and make their own jams.

I, being in the mood for a more substantial breakfast, went with feta cheese in mine, with their seasoned red potatoes on the side.
We were both pleasantly surprised at how flavorful the omelets were, with just the right fluffiness, and my potatoes were salted and seasoned perfectly.
When it came to choice of bread to accompany our meal, we both smartly ordered the one they bake there and then smeared the signature jams— one at a time, so we could try both flavors— on top.
Of course, we also had to try out the pancakes with dulce de leche.
My pal felt there wasn’t enough of the creamy sauce on top, so he requested more, and the staff seemed more than happy to provide it. Then, he was very happy with it.
We had to try the juices too, so he got carrot with a squeeze of lime, and I did beet. Of course, with all that food, we ended up taking the rest of our juices with us, which was easy, since they were already served in easy-to-carry to-go cups.
I like that those cups are clear, because you could really see the vibrant orange and red of our respective juices.
One thing we really appreciated about Babe’s Kitchen is how quiet it was in there. We often have a difficult time finding restaurants with good food that are acoustically pleasant enough that we can actually hear each other speak without yelling over other diners. The only undesirable element during our breakfast was the TV showing news. I’m not a big fan of televisions in restaurants; I’d much prefer some nice music playing in the background. Seeing some of the violent images from broadcast news programs— especially on a weekend morning— doesn’t exactly make for a relaxing meal away from home.
Otherwise, we both enjoyed the meal and the service, and we’re glad to have another option for dining out.
