The banners recognize the academic success of Jordan students and celebrate the importance of a higher education for all students across Long Beach, according to Richardson’s office.
“The City of Long Beach congratulates all of the Jordan High School graduates and celebrates the accomplishments of the 141 students attending 4-year colleges and entering the U.S. armed forces,” Richardson said during the event at the high school. “These banners allow our residents to acknowledge the hard work of our students and the support they’ve received from their families, schools and community.”
This is the second year that Richardson has implemented the graduate banner program. The program is funded through District 9 one-time funds.
“This is an opportunity for the whole city to see the excellence happening at Jordan,” said LBUSD Board Member Megan Kerr. “No one who drives past these banners will be able to deny the great things happening here. We are proud to celebrate and honor our north Long Beach scholars and grateful to partner with Councilmember Richardson in this effort.”
The street banners are being installed this week near Jordan High across Atlantic Avenue between South Street and Artesia Boulevard and across Artesia Boulevard, between Long Beach Boulevard and Orange Street.
