Belmont Shore businesses offering up another chocoholic’s paradises

The Belmont Shore Business Association will present the Belmont Shore Chocolate Festival & Spring Sweets on Saturday, March 24 from 1pm to 4pm, featuring 20 to 25 Belmont Shore Businesses offering an array of treats for all chocolate lovers.
There is no entry fee for the event, only the cost of tickets used to purchase the chocolate items. A book of 12 tickets for $10 will be sold the week of the event at the following locations: La Strada, Mail Boxes Etc., Salon Soma, Sweet Jill’s, We Olive & The Beach on 2nd Street. Tickets may be purchased during the festival in front of Chase Bank, 5200 E. 2nd St.
The Homemade Chocolate Dessert Contest is for those who think they have a recipe for a chocolate dessert worthy of an award. A panel of judges will sample the desserts and choose winners in three categories: Chocolate Cakes & Pies, Chocolate Cookies & Brownies and Unique Chocolate Treats. Entry forms are available on the events page at BelmontShore.org. It costs $10 per dessert to enter. The contest tent will be located on Corona Avenue, and only judges may sample the desserts.
Judges this year include: Deborah Hirt, owner of Scratch Baked Goods; Nancy Hanley, co-owner of Frosted Cupcakery; Lisa Ramelow, owner of LaStrada; Charles Feder, owner of Rossmoor Pastries; Chef Paul of Primal Alchemy; Nancy Foster, first lady of Long Beach; Dawna DeLong, wife of 3rd District Councilmember Gary DeLong; Tim Grobaty of the Long Beach Press-Telegram; Ashleigh Oldland of the Grunion Gazette; and Justin Rudd and Ralph Millero, Belmont Shore community activists.
Those who would rather eat chocolate than make it are welcome to enter the Hof’s Hut Chocolate Pie Eating Contest. Contestants will race each other to see who can eat an individual-size chocolate cream pie the fastest. Winners of all contests, announced at 4pm on Corona Avenue south of 2nd Street, will receive trophies.
The following are the age categories and contest times:
3pm— Kids 6 to 8
3:20pm— Kids 12 to 14
3:30pm— Kids 15 to 17
3:10pm— Kids 9 to 11
3:40pm— Adults

For kids, there will also be a puppet show by The Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross and balloon twisting, face painting and glitter tattoos by Joselyn’s Creative Balloons.
