The Grace First Concert Series is hosting a special concert by the Grace First Presbyterian Church Music Department Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity and coincides with the Jimmy Carter Work Project, taking place in Los Angeles. A free-will donation will be taken at the concert with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Habitat.
The concert features the Church’s own rock band, which can usually be found leading worship services at 11 a.m. Sundays. On the night of the event, they will be presenting a program of uplifting songs by a variety of rock bands. Many of the songs in the concert are works by band members Lisa Jackert, Stan DeWitt and Bruce Ford.
In addition, the band will perform songs by artists and bands such as Leonard Cohen, the Subdudes and Natalie Merchant. There will also be a special guest appearance by local singer/songwriter Jonny Fair.
This is the first concert in the Grace First Concert Series. There will be other concerts from various performers of different genres that will take place from now until May 2008.
The concerts will be held in the sanctuary of Grace First Presbyterian Church, located at 3955 Studebaker Road in Long Beach. For more information, contact Minister of Music Stan DeWitt at (562) 420-3393.
