Bicyclist killed in traffic accident

An unidentified man is dead after being struck by a truck while riding a bicycle.
On Monday, Aug. 31, at approximately 12:07am, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched to the 103 Freeway regarding a traffic collision involving a semi truck/trailer and a bicyclist, an accident that resulted in the death of the bicyclist.
When officers arrived, they learned that the bicyclist had been determined deceased by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 International semi-truck with a trailer, being driven by a 50-year-old male resident of Rancho Cucamongo, was traveling northbound on the 103 Freeway north of Pacific Coast Highway when it collided with the bicycle. The bicycle had been traveling illegally across the northbound lanes of the freeway at the time it was struck.
The bicyclist, a male who appeared to be in his 60s, had no identifying information on him and is currently listed as a John Doe. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will determine his identity. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and was interviewed and released.
