After more than a decade of providing the residents with summer fun in the sun, the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association (BKBIA) once again presents the annual Bixby Knolls Street Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 24.
“The street fair is always a great opportunity to have fun with the family while supporting your community,” said Susan Cooper, executive director for the BKBIA. “People get to see neighbors and friends that maybe they haven’t seen since last year’s fair.”
The Bixby Knolls Street Fair is a free open-air festival that takes place annually in June. It’s just one of several yearly events sponsored by the BKBIA that happen along Atlantic Avenue, the district’s central commercial corridor.
Traffic is closed off for several blocks to allow artisan and antique vendors, local business people and food purveyors to set up booths and boutiques in the street. Among the businesses that will have a booth is the Signal Tribune with members of the staff anxious to meet and greet the community.
The Blues Buffet Band will provide musical entertainment, while DJ Rosa will have people dancing in the streets–line dancing that is. Other groups include reggae music by Jah Fellowship and jazz fusion from In a Silent Way.
Kids can also enjoy a variety of activities such as carnival games, a 60-foot slide, a bounce house and a rock-climbing wall.
One new feature this year will be an outside booth for the BKBIA. Stop by and meet the members and take the opportunity to give them feedback about the event. Everyone who fills out a brief questionnaire will be entered into a free drawing for a Jiffy Lube gift basket.
The Bixby Knolls Street Fair is attended by more than 10,000 local residents and visitors who come to enjoy the free, family-oriented fun that includes shopping, food, kids’ activities and all sorts of live entertainment on the outdoor stage and on the street.
“We’ve got a great line-up of entertainment,” Cooper said. “The whole event promises to be a great day.”
