Bixby Knolls Towers resident receives Retirement Housing Foundation award

Marjorie Grommé, a resident of Bixby Knolls Towers (BKT), has been selected as the recipient of the national Resident of the Year Award, through the Retirement Housing Foundation (RHF).
“Marjorie Grommé has spent years making her home, Bixby Knolls Towers, a welcoming and socially active community for those who call it their home,” said Dr. Laverne Joseph, president and CEO of RHF, during a banquet last month honoring Grommé and others for their efforts on behalf of the 20,000 residents that live in RHF communities. “RHF is pleased to present Marjorie Grommé with the 2015 Resident of the Year Award.”
Active at the retirement home for 10 years, Grommé has served on the BKT Resident Association in numerous positions, twice as president, according to RHF. She started an “armchair” travel club that viewed videos twice monthly and was attended by many who lived in the community, according to RHF. Grommé is also a founding member of BKT’s Project HANDS group which contributes items to local charities, military who are serving overseas and patients at the Long Beach VA Hospital.
She can be seen working in BKT’s rose gardens and provides silk-flower arrangements for the common areas on each of the community’s 13 floors.
“The qualities that drew me to Majorie immediately were her friendliness to me as a newcomer, her sense of humor and, later on, her compassion and devotion to making the Bixby Knolls Towers a great place to live,” said BKT resident Jackie Grover.
