The Long Beach Community College (LBCC) District Board of Trustees voted March 10 to extend Superintendent-President Eloy Ortiz Oakley’s contract for two additional years, through February 2019, according to Stacey Toda, LBCC associate director of Public Relations & Marketing.
“LBCC has made great strides under President Oakley’s leadership,” said Board of Trustees President Jeff Kellogg. “But we have many challenges ahead. The Board feels strongly that he is the right person to lead our college in the next four years and beyond.”
Oakley’s current contract had been set to expire June 30, 2017.
In awarding the extension, trustees expressed their support for Oakley and their commitment to work as a team to accomplish a number of key goals at the college. Among the goals outlined by Oakley in his January State of the College address are improving the time it takes for students to complete a degree, certificate or transfer requirements.
“I very much appreciate the Board’s confidence and support,” Oakley said. “I look forward to working with the trustees and our outstanding faculty and staff in the coming years, as a united team, to bring Long Beach City College to even greater heights.”
