Brewing sex, murder and all that jazz

Spend an afternoon sipping tea in Chicago’s sexiest cell block when Gypsy Theater premieres its first MusicaliTea, Chicago, a themed afternoon of tea treats served between vocal highlights of the Broadway show at Elise’s Tearoom in Bixby Knolls.
The themed event features a menu that includes cellblock summer salad with berries, goat cheese & champagne vinaigrette, tea sandwiches (cool cucumber, enticing egg, alibi olive, tantalizing tomato and basil), “still warm” mini lemon and orange scones, and guilty pleasure chocolate decadence with Roxie’s raspberry sauce.
Call Elise for reservations at (562) 424-2134 or go to www.elisestearoom.com.
Upcoming MusicaliTeas include The Land of Oz (highlights from Wicked, The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz) in October and Les Miserables in November. Additionally, Gypsy Theater has just begun a series of Faerie Tale Teas, magical afternoons of story-telling and song featuring traditional fairy tales such as Beauty & the Beast, The Secret Garden and The Nutcracker. Upcoming performances include Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid in August and Mary Poppins in September.
Chicago will be presented Sunday, July 15, at 3:30 p.m. for $25 at Elise’s Tea Room, 3924 Atlantic Avenue.
