Bridge-replacement project using technology for first time in state

To carry out construction of the bridge segments, crews are utilizing twin machines known as a self-launching MSS, a first in California. The MSS is a traveling steel structure that supports the formwork and allows for a rapid, efficient and safe construction of the roadway, officials said.
With the formwork built atop the MSS, each unit weighs 3.1 million pounds.
