As the traditional school year comes to an end, Sunday hours at the Long Beach Main Library will also end in June. As part of the approved budget for Fiscal Year 2009, the main library will close on Sundays to coincide with the traditional school year.
“Due to the current economic climate, additional funds are unavailable in the library budget,” said Glenda Williams, acting director of Library Services. “Therefore, the main library will be closed on Sundays beginning June 7, 2009.”
There will not be any libraries open on Sundays in Long Beach, but libraries in Lakewood (Iacoboni Library), Cerritos, Huntington Beach (Central Library), Carson and San Pedro are currently open on Sundays.
Effective June 1, the main library schedule of hours will be:
Sundays and Mondays Closed
Tuesdays 10am—8pm
Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am—6pm
Fridays and Saturdays 10am—5pm
Any reinstatement of Sunday main library hours will be part of the Fiscal Year 2010 budget process.
