To celebrate the most important holiday for the Cambodian community, the Cambodian Coordinating Council (Cam-CC) is organizing two events— the Cambodian New Year Parade and Celebration. The Sixth Annual Cambodian New Year Parade will take place on Sunday, April 4 on Anaheim Street from Junipero Avenue to MacArthur Park. On Saturday, April 10, the Cambodian New Year Celebration 2010 will take place at El Dorado Park Regional Park Area III.
The Sixth Annual Cambodian New Year Parade will display unique and colorful floats, traditional and modern Cambodian dancers, musicians, pedicabs and cyclos. The procession starts at 9:30am at the corner of Junipero and Anaheim Street. Coordinators say they are expecting tens of thousands of local residents and visitors to come together from all over the United States and Cambodia to participate in the event. The parade will honor the diversity of Long Beach through the varieties of floats and participants of all backgrounds and ethnicities.
The Cambodian New Year Celebration on April 10 will last from 9am to 5pm. The all-day event will include religious ceremonies, exotic food, carnival games, face painting for kids, live performances, Khmer traditional performances, plays, and a live band with famous Khmer singers performing throughout the day. Hundreds of information and merchandise booths will be displaying their products and information.
Admission tickets are required for the event at El Dorado Park. If purchased prior to the event’s date, the ticket is $23 per vehicle and $7 entrance fee to be paid to the city. Tickets are available at a number of Cambodian restaurants and businesses throughout Long Beach. Visit cam-cc.org for a complete list of locations.
